About Mark

Mark is a writer, a community worker, an adventurer, a campaigner for social justice, and author of The Undesirables: Inside Nauru (Hardie Grant, 2014), an account of his work in Nauru with asylum seekers. He currently works for a refugee and asylum seeker settlement service in Sydney while he writes as a freelancer. His second book, Nauru Burning, was published by Editia in November 2016. He is currently writing his third book about a nonviolent community in Afghanistan which will be published by Hardie Grant in 2018. Mark is currently vice president of Sydney PEN, an affiliate of PEN International, a worldwide association of writers which defends freedom of expression and campaigns on behalf of writers who have been silenced by persecution or imprisonment.

This website is a literary space for Mark’s wanderings: a collection of writing devoted to the investigation of the world and the global village of people and cultures within it.
