About Mark

Mark is a writer, a community worker, an adventurer, a campaigner for social justice, and author of The Undesirables: Inside Nauru (Hardie Grant, 2014), an account of my work in Nauru with asylum seekers. He currently works for a settlement service in Sydney while he writes as a freelancer and assists as a committee member of PEN Sydney. His second book, Nauru Burning, was published in November 2016. He is currently writing his third book which will be set in Afghanistan and will be published by Hardie Grant in 2018.

This website is a literary space for my wanderings: a collection of writing devoted to the investigation of our world and the global village of people and cultures within it. In it you will find my self-published blog posts and a collection of my published articles from publications such as Foreign Policy, World Policy Journal, Huffington Post, New Internationalist, VICE, Mamamia, New Matilda, Conscious Magazine, Roads and Kingdoms. Enjoy.
