Danice and Ahmed fell hard for each other, even though he was behind bars and she had four children. When he was released they started building a life together until Ahmed’s visa was cancelled, he was thrown into immigration detention and Danice was left fighting for his release.
This story was first published by ABC Radio National’s Earshot, which divided the piece into two episodes. I was introduced to Ahmed and Danice by human rights lawyer Alison Battisson. Their story and many others will be included in a book about Alison and her fight to free people from immigration detention.
