Mark published his first book in 2014. Since then he has built a career as a freelance writer, publishing two more books and more than 50 stories in a wide array of print and online outlets including literary and academic journals, writing anthologies, and news publications such as The Saturday Paper, Foreign Policy, the Sydney Morning Herald, and the Guardian. He has also published radio and podcast stories and has a television series and documentary in production with Tilt Media. Mark has been teaching with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Technology, Sydney since 2021.
Drawing upon more than twenty years of writing experience and four years of academic and creative writing teaching, Mark now offers creative mentorships and workshops for all levels of writers.
He hosts a regular creative nonfiction course for beginners at the Byron Community College. This immersive 2-day workshop helps students hone their voice, master narrative techniques, and transform personal experiences, historical and real life events into compelling prose. Students learn the key elements, techniques, and insights to craft nonfiction that reads with the same grip and flow as a captivating novel.
Mark also runs advanced writing workshops which can include in depth character building sessions, developing narrative arcs and structure, and constructing plot.
Mark offers 1:1 online and in-person mentoring sessions. A series of three 60-minute monthly sessions is $900, or six fortnightly sessions for $1500. These are tailored to your needs and can include:
