The Kabul Peace House tells the story of a remarkable and unlikely peace project in Kabul. After decades of conflict, few Afghans remember what it is like to live without war. Yet a group of young Afghans, male and female, come together – led by a charismatic and idealistic man called Insaan – to form a community devoted to peace. They believe a peaceful future is founded in human relationships, reaching across ethnic, religious and international divides to make friends.

This is a story about young people for young people. Through this book, there is an opportunity for young people all over the world to connect with the ideas, actions and bravery of primary school, high school and university students in Afghanistan. Here are some ideas for connecting students all over the world.

1) Download the study guide

Teachers can download the FREE study guide available for the Kabul Peace House and educate students about Afghanistan, the peace house and the mission of nonviolence. Thanks to Amanda Stavert for writing the study guide and Tameka Waldron for designing it.

2) Organise letter-writing sessions

Send letters and postcards of hope and support to the peace community in Afghanistan. Post correspondence to the below address and we will ensure it arrives in Afghanistan:

Letters For Peace, Edmund Rice Centre, 15 Henley Road, Homebush West NSW, Australia 2140

3) Organise Skype discussions

Contact Insaan and arrange a Skype conversation between the community and your school or group. You can email him at:

4) Host an author talk

Get in touch with me and we can make it happen.
